Titan Fuel is the exporting arm of a maritime logistics corporation dedicated to providing the highest quality, refinery direct fuel to our clientele. We understand the quality of the fuel and consistency of delivery is critically important to the success of our export/import partners. Titan Fuel enjoys direct refinery access and procures fuel inventories accordingly, transporting fuel supply in their own fleet of barges maintaining custody from the refinery to the truck rack. Other than QA/QC, there are no third parties involved, which means we deliver refinery-direct product every day. Our Ultra-Low Sulphur Diesel complies with and exceeds specification for Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD-NOM-016-Automotriz). Titan Fuel anticipates an entrance into the gasoline market in 2021. All shipments are direct from the refinery, on spec, twice checked by certified 3rd party laboratories, and Certificates of Analysis are generated upon every procurement. Because quality matters to our clientele and their customers, it matters to Titan Fuel.

Efficency, Utilization, Resilience, Warranty

For a vehicle with a diesel engine to work better for longer, timely mechanical maintenance and supply of clean, high-quality fuel are essential. Quality of diesel fuel has always been an important part of supporting manufacturer’s warranties, and maintaining the performance, usable life, and reliability of all diesel engines.

The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and American Petroleum Institute (API) are two bodies that ensure the quality of diesel fuel and the suppliers and refiners of diesel fuel in America are required to ensure compliance as closely as possible with ASTM and API guidelines. Choosing the correct fuel for diesel engines is a must.

Below are a few characteristics of a good diesel fuel to help keep your vehicle on the road and in top-performing condition.

Diesel Fuel Cetane Number

Cetane measures a fuel’s ignition delay and diesel fuel’s cetane number is a measure to check the fuel oil’s volatility. Diesel with a higher cetane number makes it easier for engines to start and achieve a smooth combustion process. If the cetane number is low, diesel engines find it difficult in starting once injected into the diesel combustion chamber.

According to ASTM and API, the 1D and 2D diesel fuels have a cetane rating between 40 and 50. The rating of cetane in diesel fuel may differ from the octane rating used in gasoline, the higher the octane rating, the better will be fuel quality & utilization.

Diesel Fuel Volatility

Diesel fuel with higher fuel volatility is an ideal choice for vehicles that are responsible for higher loads with higher speed. It is measure with the same factors as the cetane number and it is established with a distillation test. It also makes a huge impact on the engine’s fuel economy. The better and higher fuel volatility, the better will be the fuel economy of a diesel engine and it also helps reduce engine smoke and increase the engine’s life.

//

Diesel Fuel Viscosity

This is another characteristic of good diesel fuel, which is responsible for mitigation of resistance of the fuel flow, affecting oil temperature. Diesel fuel with higher viscosity puts additional pressure on the injection system and reduces the atomization and vaporization of the fuel spray.

On the other hand, low diesel fuel viscosity allows it to provide enough lubrication on the moving parts while allowing the fuel to flow freely at its lowest operational temperature. ASTM and API recommend using fuel viscosity in the region of 39 Seconds Saybolt Universal for high-speed engines.

//

Diesel Fuel Lubricity

As the name suggests, diesel fuel lubricity helps the engine work smoothly by minimizing friction between the engine parts. It is very useful when the vehicle is working under load conditions. In the absence of the desired level of diesel fuel lubricity, engine components like injectors and fuel pumps may face excessive friction, resulting in metal damage. It can make a huge impact on the engine’s overall life and increase high component replacement costs.

Diesel Fuel Sulfur Content

Sulfur level in diesel is another important characteristic of a good fuel with the ability to define effects on the internal engine components in the long run. The diesel engine running with higher sulfur levels are likely to face more internal damage and require engine oil and filter to be changed more frequently as it makes corrosive effects of hydrogen sulfide and the sulfur dioxide, which form while the engine operates.

Fuel Cleanliness and Stability

Diesel fuel has been associated with higher emission, which is why most people prefer buying gasoline vehicles for longer life and to stay compliant with emission laws. However, this perception is a thing of the past as diesel fuel manufacturers are more concerned about its quality.
It is important to know if the fuel contains traces of foreign substances as your engine components like the fuel pump and injectors may be damaged. Diesel fuel is usually heavier than Gasoline, which is why it holds dirt particles in suspension longer, resulting in the seizure of engine components due to corrosion.

//

Bottom Line

The quality of diesel fuel makes a huge impact on the overall engine’s life, which of course can reduce or increase the burden on your pocket. Using a premium diesel engine not just helps increase overall engine efficiency and maximize manufacturer’s warranty on diesel engines, there are many other benefits of using a premium diesel.

Quicker Start-ups

As stated-above, diesel fuel with a higher cetane number ensures quicker engine start-ups and smooth performance. It ensures quicker air and fuel mixture combusts in the engine, which means a shorter delay in starting and better ignition quality. This also saves your battery life in the long run.

Lower Deposits

Good quality diesel fuel includes injection stabilizers, which prevent deposits in injectors and help avoid unwanted, costly downtime and maintenance.

Clean Engine

Detergents in good-quality diesel fuel do exactly what they sound like; help keep your engine components clean for better performance. This results in reduced pesky build-ups for better fuel efficiency and greater horsepower.

Reduced Friction

When you have enough lubrication in the fuel, it helps reduce the friction and wear of the engine components like injection and fuel pump. Since these parts face massive pressure during operation, better lubrication can improve 10 to 15 percent better protection against friction.

High-Quality Diesel

High-quality diesel fuel not just helps improve engine performance, but also saves it from additional corrosion and wear when in operation. A premium diesel fuel can save loads of money by delivering more power and better fuel economy than a regular one. According to the tests, it’s been also proven that premium diesel fuel can help achieve a 4.5 percent increase in power and a 5 percent increase in fuel economy.
